T-72M1

 T-72 assembly  T-72 specifications

Model height (to turret roof) 5cm; length 13.5cm; width 7.5cm.

Because Russia’s T-72 is the most widely produced tank in the world, and has been improved, upgraded, and has so many options available, it can sometimes be very difficult to decide exactly which variant a particular model is.
The tank first appeared as a simplified T-64 prototype in 1970, is still being produced in several countries, and is still in service in more than 30.
There are thought to be around 55,000 in the world.
It is has been developed in Russia as the T-90, and forms the basis for many MBTs still in development – such as the Tank-EX in India, and the Zulfiqar in Iran.
The hull of the T-72 is also used in other combat vehicles, including:
BMPT (on T-90 hull) – Russian heavy convoy and close tank support urban warfare vehicle fitted with a 30mm autocannon and co-ax 30mm grenade launcher, four Kornet anti-tank missiles (which can be fitted with a thermobaric anti-personnel HE warhead) and two more 30mm grenade launchers in the forward hull. It has Kontakt-5 armour
TOS-1 – 30-tube napalm rocket launcher
BREM-1 – Armoured recovery vehicle with crane, winch, dozer blade, towing equipment
IMR-2 – Combat engineering vehicle with telescoping crane and pincers, dozer blade/plough, and mine-clearing system
MTU-72 – Armoured bridge layer, which can lay a 50t (55 short tons) capacity bridge spanning 18m (60 ft) in three minutes.
